Veronica, not real name was a studious and focused young girl who gained admission into a higher institution at an early age of 15, her parents were so proud of their daughter after graduation, reason?- she graduated in flying colors! She really sacrificed a lot, there were days when she had to read under street lights within the school premise, there were also days she had to settle with 1-0-1, her 3 square meal was not balanced, but drinking water repeatedly at various intervals was her style for fixing the zero meal!
She was so excited, her expectation was to have a lucrative job to cater well for herself and her parents who had relied on loans from a cooperative society to ensure that she had a sound education.
Lest I forget, Veronica aside being intelligent was a very beautiful lady, she had a lot of young and old guys promise her job opportunities, but surprisingly they wanted her body before they keep to their promise!
Each day, she kept hoping and praying that she gets a lucrative job as she had desired, but could only get a job where no one asked her for something in exchange within a junior secondary school. One morning she got a call from her mother that her father had been rushed to the hospital, she tried as much as possible to get there as soon as she can! The father won’t be attended to by the Medical Officials on duty except a certain amount is paid, she was thrown off balance, remember she works in a secondary school, her take-home pay is 30,000 naira (Less than $100 per month)! She was so confused, but thanks to a good Samaritan who was at the hospital to visit a friend that was admitted, he decided to help without nothing in exchange!
Veronica became more confused after she had a deep thought and realized that 8 years after graduation, she was still living from hand to mouth with her parents, hardly can she take proper care of herself and her parents, her mother’s business wasn’t really bringing in more income for the family since the last recession, and her father a retiree hasn’t been paid his gratuity after retiring 4 years ago.
Now she has vowed to leave her Nation with the promise of not returning again, but ensuring her parents will join her overseas after the good Samaritan that helped at the hospital promised to ‘push’ her out of the Country!
Will you blame or applaud her for making such a decision?!
