Daniel (Not real name) had decided that he’ll be paying a visit to an old friend who earlier notified him that he only needs a laptop and be devious in order to earn a living and fulfil his dreams.
During a visit to his old friend, he discovered that his old schoolmate was a fraudster! He declined to learn the tricky way of earning a living! He also met a brilliant lady Stella (not real name) who he engaged in a private discussion. Stella was an outstanding graduate who possess the capability to help any organization that requires her potentiality to grow and develop tremendously. Jerry asked ‘’ Why are you into prostitution? ’’, she responded affirmatively by saying ‘’I just had to do it in order to survive and help my family, and point of correction, I’m not a prostitute, but an escort’’. Jerry laughed preposterously and said ‘’ you are just an ashawo (Prostitute) ‘’, that made her shed tears repeatedly. He apologized and she proceeded to narrate her painful story. Stella was indeed a brilliant lady, after graduation most of her colleagues felt she would get a job as soon as possible. Stella submitted her resume to some organizations, after every interview, she had the assurance that she was successful, but someone on the team of interviewers will want to sleep with her before she’s given an offer letter.
She had rebuffed such an offer many times, but the financial pressure around her increased sporadically in such a manner that she became so confused and wasn’t finding it easy on what next do! When she finally confided in her friend, she was advised to sleep with anyone willing to offer her a job! She did comply with the advice, but she never got the job! Jerry was so sober listening to her story, he had a clear picture of what she had made known to him. Stella had decided sleeping around with men who had money to offer rather than sleeping with those who slept with her and never gave a job! She had lived between the devil and the deep blue sea! Jerry advised her to learn a skill and earn a living with it.
In Nigeria today, there are a many young graduates who are passing through the valley of the shadow of pains, some are lured via deceptive adverts for interviews where the little money they have on them is collected by fraudsters posing to be recruiters for some big organizations. Many ladies who seek job offers end up being raped by persons who won’t ever give them jobs. Stories have been told of those who weren’t seen again after they went for an interview, possibly they ended up in the hand of some ritualistic or inhumane persons. There are graduates who also travel constantly across various states for Interviews, making use of borrowed cash from friends or close persons.
The shocking increase in the number of scammers who actually take advantage of the appalling unemployment crisis within Nigeria should be tackled with full force by the government and other well-meaning Nigerians who truly care about the Nigerian youths. Long-Lasting solutions should be provided to alleviate the sufferings of many graduates who can neither get a job nor have easy access to capital in order to commence business.
